George S. Kaufman

Biography:
     Born 1889 in Pittsburgh, PA, In 1915 Kaufman was writing for The New York Tribune, but moved to The New York Times two years later. His writing had a biting wit and brusque manner, although he may have been different in person. Moss Hart said he had "a heart as hard and tough as a marshmallow." He collaborated with many writers including Marc Connelly, Edna Ferber, Moss Hart, Ring Lardner, J.P. Marquand, Morris Ryskind, Robert Sherwood, Howard Teichmann and Alexander Woolcott. Died 1961.
